How to Request a Claude License

Overview

Claude is an AI assistant available to Quilt Software employees. To manage costs responsibly, we use a tiered approach: all employees are encouraged to start with the free version of Claude, and paid Team plan seats are reserved for those who demonstrate consistent, high-value usage.

Getting Started with Claude (Free Plan)

Every employee can begin using Claude right away at no cost. Here’s how:

  1. Create a personal account at claude.ai using any personal email address (Corporate emails only work for paid plans)
  2. Start using Claude immediately. The free plan provides a generous allowance for everyday tasks.
  3. Connect your Quilt tools. Even on the free plan, you can connect Claude to Quilt’s Slack workspace, Notion, and other integrations using your Quilt account credentials.

Important: Do not use SSO to sign up for the free plan.

Our SSO domain is locked to paid Team plan seats only. Free plan users should create a personal account directly on claude.ai without using Quilt’s SSO. Signing in through SSO will not give you a free account.

 

Requesting a Paid Team Plan Seat

If you’re regularly hitting the limits of the free plan and Claude is providing clear value in your role, you may be eligible for a paid Team plan seat. Here’s the process:

  1. Use the free plan first. Demonstrate that you’re consistently maxing out the free plan’s usage limits.
  2. Talk to your manager. Let your manager know how you’re using Claude and why a paid seat would benefit your work.
  3. Your manager submits the request. Requests must come from a manager—individual requests will not be processed. Your manager should submit an IT ticket requesting a paid Claude seat on your behalf.

What happens next:

  • IT will review the request and coordinate with the appropriate stakeholders for approval.
  • If approved, IT will provision a paid Team plan seat and enable SSO access for the user.
  • Budget is limited, so paid seats are prioritized for employees who are actively getting significant value from Claude in their day-to-day role.

FAQ

Can I request a paid seat for myself?

No. Paid seat requests must come from your manager. Speak with your manager first, and they will submit the request through IT on your behalf.

Can I use SSO to access the free plan?

Can I still use Quilt tools with the free plan?

Are any departments excluded from using Claude?

No. Claude is available to all departments. The free plan is open to everyone, and paid seats are available to any team where the need is justified.
