Frequently Asked Questions

We are consolidating quilt-xbu.slack.com and posnation.slack.com into quilt-corporate.slack.com. This guide answers common questions about the migration, what to expect, and what you need to do.

✅  What You Need To Do Now

1. Accept your quilt-corporate.slack.com workspace invitation.

2. Save or download any critical pinned messages, bookmarks, or files from your old workspace.

3. If you installed or manage any Slack apps or automations, contact the IT team.

General

Q: What is happening?

A: We are consolidating our Slack workspaces. The two source workspaces—quilt-xbu.slack.com and posnation.slack.com—are being merged into quilt-corporate.slack.com, our single company-wide workspace.

Q: Why are we doing this?

A: Consolidating into one workspace simplifies communication, reduces tool fragmentation, ensures every team member can find the same channels and people, lowers licensing costs, and makes IT administration more efficient.

Q: When will the migration happen?

A: The cutover is targeted for late April 2026. You will receive advance notice before any changes affect your workspace. Full decommission of the old workspaces is planned for the end of May 2026.

Q: Who is managing this project?

A: The IT team is managing the migration end-to-end, with Jacob Dockter as the project sponsor. If you have questions, reach out to the IT team via Freshdesk or Slack.

Your Account & Access

Q: Will I need to create a new Slack account?

A: No. If you already have an account on quilt-corporate.slack.com, it stays as-is. If you are coming from one of the source workspaces, you will receive a workspace invitation—simply accept it to join.

Q: I didn’t receive an invite. What should I do?

A: Check your spam or junk folder first. If you still cannot find it, reach out to the IT team and we will get it resent.

Q: Will my login credentials change?

A: Your sign-in method will align with quilt-corporate.slack.com’s authentication policies (SSO/SAML). If your old workspace used a different login method, IT will provide updated sign-in instructions.

Q: I have accounts in multiple workspaces. What happens?

A: Slack matches accounts by email address. If you already exist in quilt-corporate and one of the source workspaces, your accounts will be linked automatically. Your old message history will be associated with your existing corporate account.

Q: What happens to my display name, profile photo, and status?

A: Your profile information will carry over. However, we recommend verifying your profile details after the migration to confirm everything transferred correctly.

Channels & Messages

Q: Will my channels be migrated?

A: Yes. Public and private channels from the source workspaces are being recreated in quilt-corporate.slack.com. If a channel with the same name already exists, the imported channel may be renamed to avoid conflicts.

Q: I have a private channel in POS Nation or Quilt XBU. How do I get it migrated?

A: In order for private channels to be included in the migration, you will need to add Howie Hong to the private channel in your old workspace (POS Nation or Quilt XBU). This allows the migration tooling to access and import the channel into quilt-corporate. If you need help with this, reach out to the IT team.

Q: Do I need to rejoin my channels?

A: No. Your channel memberships are being migrated automatically. You should see your channels in quilt-corporate without having to rejoin them.

Q: Will my message history be preserved?

A: Message history, including threaded conversations, is being imported into quilt-corporate using Slack’s native import tool. Imported messages will appear with their original timestamps and author attribution.

Q: What about direct messages (DMs) and group DMs?

A: DMs and group DMs are included in the import. They will appear in your DM history within the corporate workspace after migration.

Q: Will pinned messages, bookmarks, and reactions transfer?

A: Certain metadata, such as pinned items, bookmarks, emoji reactions, and custom workflows, may not carry over. We recommend saving any critical pinned content before the migration date.

Q: What about files and shared documents?

A: Files shared within Slack messages will be migrated with the associated messages. However, we recommend downloading any business-critical files as a backup before the migration window.

Apps, Bots & Integrations

Q: Will my Slack apps and integrations carry over?

A: Apps require reinstallation in the new workspace because OAuth tokens and webhooks are workspace-specific. The IT team is working through the app inventory and reinstalling apps that require admin-level configuration.

Q: I installed an app in the old workspace. What should I do?

A: If you originally installed or configured a Slack app (especially custom integrations, bots, or webhook-based tools), please reach out to the IT team so we can coordinate the reinstallation and make sure it is configured correctly.

Q: What about Zapier, Make, or other automations?

A: Zapier, Make, and similar automation tools are bound to workspace-specific channel IDs. They will NOT auto-forward to the new workspace. You will need to reconnect and remap your automations in quilt-corporate. The IT team can help if you need assistance.

Q: What about Workflow Builder workflows?

A: Workflow Builder automations need to be recreated in the new workspace. The IT team is coordinating with 21b Corp. (our advisory partner) to rebuild critical workflows.

Q: What about custom emoji?

A: Custom emoji from the source workspaces are being exported and uploaded to quilt-corporate. If you notice a missing emoji after migration, let the IT team know.

Q: Will Slack Connect channels (shared with external partners) be affected?

A: Slack Connect channels may require reconfiguration after migration. If you share channels with external organizations, please notify IT so we can coordinate continuity.

During & After Migration

Q: Can I still use my old workspace during the transition?

A: Yes. Your current account will remain active during the migration period. Once the cutover is complete, the old workspaces will be set to read-only before being decommissioned.

Q: Will there be any downtime?

A: We are working to minimize disruption. During the import window, the source workspaces may be placed into read-only mode. You will be notified of any periods where messaging may be temporarily unavailable.

Q: Will the data import affect the performance of quilt-corporate?

A: No. The import runs in the background, and you can continue using quilt-corporate as normal—messaging, calls, file sharing, and search will all work without interruption. The only thing to be aware of is that channels and user accounts should not be created, renamed, archived, or modified while the import is in progress, as those changes could cause the import to fail.

Q: What should I do right now?

A: Accept your quilt-corporate.slack.com workspace invitation if you haven’t already. Save or download any critical pinned messages, bookmarks, or files from your old workspace. If you installed or manage any Slack apps, reach out to IT.

Q: Who do I contact if something is wrong after migration?

A: Reach out to the IT team via Freshdesk or send a message in quilt-corporate. We will be actively monitoring and available for support throughout the transition.
